Keys Strike Early and Often to Cruise Past Spikes, 10–3

The Frederick Keys took control from the first pitch and never let up, defeating the State College Spikes 10–3 on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field. With a relentless offense and disciplined approach at the plate, the Keys jumped out to an early lead and capitalized on Spikes miscues throughout the contest.

The damage began in the bottom of the first when Trey Lipsey drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third, then came around to score on a hit-by-pitch to Bruin Agbayani. A sacrifice fly from Jose Silva brought in another run, and Anthony Diaz added the big blow of the inning — a 2-RBI double to left — putting Frederick up 4–0 before State College could get out of the first.

Things didn’t get better for Spikes starter Keagen Kohlhoff, who struggled with command and exited in the second inning after allowing four runs on one hit, three walks, two HBPs, and an error. His ERA ballooned to 94.50 over two short outings. Reliever Aidan Lee came on in relief but couldn’t stop the bleeding as the Keys tacked on three more runs in the second and third.

The Keys executed smart, aggressive base running all night. Lipsey stole three bases by the third inning, giving him eight on the season. Meanwhile, Agbayani and Diaz each had multiple productive plate appearances, with Diaz driving in three runs on the night.

Frederick’s pitching held firm as starter Michael Winter went four strong innings, giving up just one run. The bullpen did its job, too, with Dax Dathe earning the win in relief and striking out two over two innings.

The Spikes’ offense was quiet until late. In the second inning, Matthew Polk singled and scored on a hit by Dylan LaPointe, providing State College’s only run until the eighth. That’s when Hugh Pinkney and Harrison Didawick got on base to set the stage for LaPointe again, who delivered a 2-RBI single to cut the deficit to 10–3. But any hopes of a rally were quickly shut down.

The standout offensive performer of the night was Trey Lipsey, who reached base four times, stole three bases, and crushed a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The loss drops the Spikes to 1–3, while the Keys even their record at 3–3. State College will look to rebound in the next matchup as they continue to search for consistency both on the mound and at the plate.
